Climb a Mountain
Noosa is renowned for its stunning beaches and incredible National Park, drawing over 1 million visitors annually. Yet, there's more to explore in our hinterland.
Embark on a mountain ascent for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Sunshine Coast, blending a fulfilling workout with awe-inspiring scenery. Our hinterland features numerous vantage points suitable for all fitness levels, making it an ideal destination for everyone to enjoy.
Mt tinbeerwah
Only 15 minutes drive from Noosa Heads, set in Tewantin National Park, Mount Tinbeerwah stands tall at 265m. The hike to its summit, spanning about 500m round trip from the car park, is among the coast's most manageable, perfect for a leisurely trek with a picnic basket in tow. Offering magnificent vistas of both Noosa and the hinterland, Mount Tinbeerwah even provides wheelchair accessibility from the car park, ensuring everyone can enjoy its splendour.
Mt cooroora
A 25-minute drive north from Noosa, situated on the outskirts of Pomona within the Tuchekoi National Park. Mt Cooroora stands out as an iconic destination for climbers, walkers, and runners alike. It hosts the renowned King of The Mountain footrace annually, where participants race up and down 4.2 km of sometimes nearly vertical terrain to claim victory. For a more leisurely adventure, the Lookout Walk offers a manageable 1.1km round trip to a scenic lookout, albeit with a fairly steep incline. Seeking a challenge? The Summit Route ascends 439m over 1.8 km with rugged rock terrain—reserved for those with exceptional mobility and fitness. Remember to stay hydrated, go with a group, and anticipate 2-3 hours of demanding mountain climbing.
mt coolum
Located within the Mount Coolum National Park, just a 25-minute drive south of Noosa along the coastline, Mount Coolum presents a striking volcanic peak rising from the surrounding lowlands. It's a haven for birdwatchers and harbours rare, endangered plant species. While the hike to the summit spans only 1.6km round trip, the elevation gain of 208m makes it a challenging ascent. The reward at the top, however, is unparalleled: panoramic 360-degree views spanning from Noosa along the coast to Point Cartwright, overlooking the Glass House Mountains and the Blackall Range. Don't underestimate the difficulty; this steep trek will leave you breathless, and caution is advised due to limited barriers along the path.
Mt ninderry
Take a scenic 33km drive via Eumundi to Mount Ninderry for an invigorating hike and breathtaking views of cane flats, Peregian, Coolum, and Maroochydore. The 3km round trip from the car park offers enough steps and rock climbing to make you feel like you've earned a satisfying lunch afterward. With stunning lookouts to the East and West, lush eucalyptus and gum forests adorned with large boulders, it's an ideal escape from beach days, especially on windy days. If you hike on a Wednesday or Saturday, time your visit for a taste of exotic dishes at the Eumundi Markets.
