Kondalilla Falls
Kondalilla Falls is one of the most popular swimming holes in the Sunshine Coast because of its beautiful setting. Near the picturesque touristy town of Montville, located in Kondalilla National Park, this spectacular waterfall plunges 90 meters into a lush rainforest valley. The gorgeous swimming hole is safe for a dip, even though it's situated at the top of the waterfall. You can swim right up to and beneath the small waterfall, all while soaking in the breathtaking views. The 4.7 km round-trip walk is suitable for families, with plenty of spots to rest and take in the breathtaking views. Pack a picnic and enjoy a day surrounded by nature.
Baxter Falls
If you’re seeking a quieter waterfall experience in Kondalilla National Park, consider hiking to Baxter Falls. This hidden gem is a scenic trek that takes about two hours for a round trip, featuring a charming suspension bridge that leads to the waterfall's base. You can start the hike from either the northern or southern end, with both routes taking roughly the same time to complete. Keep in mind that there is no designated car park for this hike, so you’ll need to park along the roadside.
Gardners Falls
Just a short drive from the quaint town of Maleny, Gardners Falls is a favourite swimming hole amongst the locals. This hinterland gem is so picturesque and easily accessible, perfect for families with young children. The gentle walk along Obi Obi Creek leads to a series of cascading falls and swimming holes, complete with a rope swing for extra fun. It's an ideal spot for a refreshing dip and a family picnic.
Buderim Forest Park Falls
Tucked away in Buderim Forest Park, this waterfall offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. The well-maintained boardwalk makes it easy for families with strollers to navigate, and the picturesque setting is perfect for photos. Let the kids splash around in the rock pools while you relax and soak in the serene atmosphere.
Mapleton Falls
For those seeking a panoramic view, Mapleton Falls is a must-visit. The short walk to the lookout offers stunning vistas of the Obi Obi Valley and the 120-meter waterfall. It's a fantastic spot for a family photo and a great opportunity to teach the kids about the region's rich biodiversity.
Wappa Falls
Yandina is famous for its country markets and the ginger factory, but it also boasts a secret swimming spot at the beautiful Wappa Falls. Situated in the Mapleton Conservation Park, you can conveniently park right by the falls. Bring a picnic and spend the day there—during summer, a refreshing swim is perfect. Just be cautious when entering the water and avoid jumping from the rocks, as it's not safe.
ROBINSON Falls
Robinson Falls is a hidden gem, even to many of the locals. Located in the rural town of Nambour and tucked away in Cilento Bushland Conservation Reserve, a short 1 km loop track leads you to this charming waterfall. The area also features a park with a playground and BBQ facilities, perfect for spending an entire day enjoying the outdoors!
Serenity Falls
Nestled in Buderim Forest Park, Serenity Falls is a favourite among Sunshine Coast residents. Just 2km from Buderim village, this renowned swimming hole transports you to a subtropical oasis. The easy 800m trail, accessible from Lindsay Road and Quorn Close, features a charming bridge overlooking the falls—ideal for capturing stunning photos. It's an excellent destination for a family outing.
Kureelpa Falls
Kureelpa Falls in Mapleton National Park is another hidden treasure to add to your waterfall bucket list! The 8.5km loop starts from the Mapleton National Park day-use area and takes you on a remarkable journey through the park, lasting about three hours. The trail to the falls is mostly downhill, so be ready for the uphill trek on your return. Upon reaching the falls, you'll find numerous small rock pools perfect for a natural jacuzzi experience! You can either complete the entire circuit or turn back the way you came for a slightly shorter hike.
Booloumba Falls
Booloumba Falls is one of the most tranquil swimming spots on the Sunshine Coast. What deters most visitors from this hidden gem is the need for a 4WD to access it. Nestled in the breathtaking Conondale National Park, it's a 3km hike—perfect for a sunny summer day. The walk takes about two hours to complete, but you'll likely want to linger much longer once you arrive.
Artists Cascades
A bit upstream from Booloumba Falls lies Artists Cascades, another stunning swimming hole worth exploring. You'll need a 4WD to reach the starting point of the 10km hike, but the effort is well worth it. This section of the Conondale Great Walk takes approximately five hours for a round trip. If you're visiting in the summer, it's best to start early and take a refreshing dip in the pristine, clear water before heading back.
